Author Joni Mayhan

My life is so entangled in the paranormal, it’s difficult to determine where one begins and the other ends. I’ve written quite a few books about my experiences, but I keep far more to myself. Frankly, people would probably consider locking me up if they only knew the real story.

There are always ghosts in my house. They are drawn in by my energy and hone in on me. Some of them are just regular people who died and are looking for help. Others are darker, hoping to dim my light a bit and steal some of my energy. I can determine the difference between the two fairly quickly because I am also a medium.

My gateway into the paranormal world is through my ears. I am clairaudient, which means “clear hearing” in Latin. I hear a tone similar to ear-ringing. Once I tune into the sound, I begin pulling more information. I’ll often get words or pictures in my mind. The longer I stay tuned in, the more knowledge I gain. But I’ll be honest, I simply tune them out most of the time, mostly because it’s so constant.

Imagine sitting in your home, minding your own business, and someone walks in the door and starts waving their hands in front of your face. The first time it happens, you’ll probably be quite reactive. “What can I do to help you?” you might ask. Imagine this going on multiple times a day for years on end. Eventually, you will try to put up a “Do Not Disturb” sign on your door and pull the curtains, because you have a life outside the paranormal. For me, despite all my attempts, the sign is often ignored and they walk inside regardless.

I’ve channeled many of my experiences into my books. A very good example of what I live through is documented in my 2016 book Ghost Magnet, which is available on Amazon.com. But I haven’t limited myself with my own experiences. I often write about other people’s paranormal tales as well. Bones in the Basement – Surviving the SK Pierce Haunted Victorian Mansion and Hanover Haunting – The DeAnna Simpson Story are two examples.

My newest book is something a bit different. Intrigued by how people feel ghosts, I asked my friends in the paranormal community two questions: how do you know when a ghost is near and what is your most profound experience? The results were chilling and a bit unsettling. When Ghosts are Near is available on Amazon.com. I am also willing to mail out signed copies ($20 each, including shipping) if you email me at the address below.

In the meantime, I will continue collecting paranormal information and will share it with you. If you’re in the southern Indiana area, consider stopping by for one of my Haunted New Harmony Ghost Walks. Until then, be safe and be kind.

Thanks for stopping by!

  3. My sister and I were always into feathers. When she died i was in the park and sending out a thought asking her to send a feather to prove she was around me. Even though birds were flying around that day not one feather fell to the ground. I sat down on a bench in the park when a little dog ran up to me and jumped on to my lap wagging his tail and trying to lick my face. A lady came running to me and called the dog. His name was Feather. ive never seen the lady or the dog again.

  4. Hi I signed up for the Culbertson Mansion tomorrow evening but I did not get a confirmation and the charge on my credit card is pending. Am I booked in for this event?

  5. I read your article on whether ghosts draw on electricity. I’ve been pondering the exact opposite theory. I wonder if electricity annoys them. My reason for thinking this is that all our modern homes are on the grid. I don’t know the statistics but my sense is there were more reports of hauntings before electric lightning. Your experience suggests they feed off our devices.

It would be interesting to know how many reports of hauntings are in or around major power generation and transmission locations. And even if they were feeding on electricity could a large enough charge overdose them? Could it make them feel like they are “being watched”?

    • Hi Daniel – I believe anything is possible. We truly don’t know. We only know what we see and experience, but even that could be subjective. We’ve investigated very active locations where there isn’t an electrical source at all, so they get their energy elsewhere.

  6. I found your Ghost Walk Tours on your website, but I didn’t find anything for the Investigations. Do you offer those as well?
